Chris Corner was the mastermind behind the Sneaker Pimps and his current project IAMX is a reflection of what he contributed to the trip-hop trio- and then some.
A mixture of goth and electronica hybrids crowded King’s College and exuberantly met the glitter clad quartet as they swaggered about the stage like Bowie on a goth-fueled acid trip.
Opening with ‘The Alternative’ from their recent album of the same name, the band stormed through a set that featured a mixture of songs from that and 2004’s ‘Kiss + Swallow’. It was surprising how Corner melded electronica with slight dance grooves while managing to tread on gothic undertones.
Other highlights included ‘After Every Party I Die’ and ‘The Negative Sex’. One devoted fan held a sparkler in the air that flickered away, perfectly complimenting Corner’s effervescently decadent stage presence, and adding more flare to this spectacle of an evening.
The night came to a triumphant end with ‘Missile’ and ‘Your Joy Is My Low’. Corner’s showmanship was lapped up ‘til the very end proving that IAMX are destined to fill bigger venues and their live shows will only become more outlandishly ostentatious
Best new band in Glasgow, by a mile!
...Any more snooker cliches?
...Second track sounds like a more snarly mid-60s Who. Excellent.
...First one sounds like Sean Ryder having a flashback but second track is a killer.
