Samu.co.uk presents London’s best night of glorious sinister pop and noise.
11th Sept 08
The Good Ship, London
CATS IN PARIS www.myspace.com/catsinparis - Expect sweeping strings with chimes and glockenspiel, synth and recorder, chugging bass and acrobatic percussion & sweet instrumental breakdowns. Comparisons have been made to Deerhoof, Los Campesinos & Dirty Projectors, but the fact is they are simply a thoroughly modern band, who are surely spearheading the melodic noise scene.
THEO www.myspace.com/theo1000 - A stunning guitarist, looping each intricate motif of melody driven energy over each other forming complex music. Then slinging his guitar onto his back, he plays tight drums over the top.
JOY OF SEX www.myspace.com/joyofsex - It's spiky, minimalist, arty and goes off in unexpected directions and the interplay between the 3 vocalists brings to mind a fusion of Prinzhorn Dance School and Wire.
SONGS FROM THE SHOWS www.myspace.com/songsfromtheshows - With no less than two bassists, expect Slint style spoken vocals mixed with juddering angular riffs and drumming that can only be described as 'epic'
Live VJ all night!
And FREE sweets, stickers and more for the first 30 people through the door!
Doors 7:30pm. £4 entry £2 flyer or advanced.

Best new band in Glasgow, by a mile!
...Any more snooker cliches?
...Second track sounds like a more snarly mid-60s Who. Excellent.
...First one sounds like Sean Ryder having a flashback but second track is a killer.
...once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copehagen?
...The more I watch it, the more I like it.
...Sex on Fire is good once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copenhagen
...Felix Maccabee recommends the half crazed performance poet Derek Mains.
...Lewis Hingston profiles Immoral, who sound like early 90s punk rock a la Bad Religion, right down to the buzzy bee guitars.
..."You only get to appreciate what you do when you're not doing it," says bassist Rob Canning, slurping on a tea. "and now we're back, we're buzzing to go."
PART ONE: WELCOME TO 2008
ARTROCKER: How has the...
Excellent slice of full on old school rock from The Binges. Recommended by our readers, it's now a firm favourite in the artrocker.com office.
...Crank up your broadband connection and prepare to download this enormous and quite excellent mp3 from Envelopes. It's from a mixtape - Soup of Germs - that was given away...
Editorial incompetence at artrocker.com meant that the wrong Grates track was post earlier.
...Now then, Devendra Banhart. I've always liked his beard, but not his music. However, his new collaboration with Greg Rogrove - called Megapuss - is rather good.
