DEMO OF THE WEEK:
THE FANCY DRESS PARTY
Rich: I think this band is the most exciting thing we've heard since we got here, including all the week's singles. It's recorded really well - obviously quite lo fi, but it was really exciting. All in all I'd give that 10/10.
Anthony: I'd agree, I think it's incredibly exciting. Very good indeed. To get incredibly geeky about the recording there are a few things that could sound a bit better... the snare's not particularly great. I was waiting for the drums to drop (on 'Inferiorism') but I guess they waited till the last minute...
Rich: (laughs) This isn't an interview to produce them!
Anthony: Sorry, sorry.
Artrocker Gopher: Why don't you produce them?
Anthony: I would love to!
Rich: That'd be brilliant, we've very fond of them. It'd be good to see them live, actually!

Rich: It sounds like a dad who's spent a lot of money on a nice recording just to play his expensive guitar. Playing the blues...
Anthony: It's not my thing really. It could be my thing but they haven't pushed it enough. Push harder!
Anthony: Somebody was telling me about a review which Futureheads did of, not our current single, but the last one, which has got a cowbell in it. They said something along the lines of 'if this lot are from England they should be ashamed of themselves. They just want to be LCD Soundsystem" And we just thought 'that's a bit odd, isn't it?' So I don't really think we should knock bands, and looking back I hope we haven't! Because actually, this one is almost life affirming. I'm reading the press release and it seems that Rimo is doing his - or her - own thing, and that's all fine with me!
Rich: Look, people have got hobbies haven't they? (laughs) And I think that's a good thing. People should have 'interests' - I've always said it! And this band have got interests - they're hobbying.
Rich: I thought that was the second best thing I've heard today! It's got very witty vocals... there's a song for example, called 'The Night I Punched Dracula In the face'. Another is called 'And Then I Was A Cat.'
Anthony: I like this one too - The Fancy Dress Party come first, with these guys second.
Best new band in Glasgow, by a mile!
...Any more snooker cliches?
...Second track sounds like a more snarly mid-60s Who. Excellent.
...First one sounds like Sean Ryder having a flashback but second track is a killer.
...once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copehagen?
...The more I watch it, the more I like it.
...Sex on Fire is good once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copenhagen
...We’ve chosen to do a gallery of our favourite Russian writers. Some people might say ‘that sounds a bit pretentious’ but why should it be?
We’re not pretending; these guys are no different to us than Dylan or Iggy...
We probably all know that those who mourn the passing of the golden age of vinyl often speak in dreamy tones of the advantages of record cover artwork as a reason for their belief in the sanctity of the LP...

I love this tune. Like Jason Lowenstein fronting The Thermals covering Sweet Jane, with Steve Albini at the controls. In their blurb, they state "we play with passion, and that's...

Joyous ideas packed art pop from Cardiff seven piece. Sounds like Art Brut, The Research and Palomar got wasted on absinthe and took the stage together at an open mic...
Now then, Devendra Banhart. I've always liked his beard, but not his music. However, his new collaboration with Greg Rogrove - called Megapuss - is rather good.
