Medallist + A Human + Chew Lips

5th Aug - Buffalo Bar, Highbury Corner

> MEDALLIST (Bristol)
> A HUMAN (London)
> CHEW LIPS

> MEDALLIST (Bristol)
Haunting the Bristol scene for a couple of years now these five hipsters give artpop a positively Bristol flavour with their buzzing synths and determinedly danceable approach. Perhaps you can't wait for another Klaxons release and Hot Chip make you sick, well Medallist may well satisfy that craving. As groove laden as the greatly missed Tom Vek was but also as rocking guitars as Bloc party ever got (early on). Recording a debut album currently for release on Gut Recordings.

> A HUMAN (London)
Electronica rarely (if ever) finds a home at Artrocker but with A Human tipping nods to the more abrasive end of 80's sythn outfits like Depeche Mode, Human League and Heaven 17 we couldn't really resist inviting them to play. Dave Human delivers a fine line in Psycho drama monologues and is by all accounts a David Lynchian charisma out front. Brighton's cool Wall of Sound have released the floor filling 'Black Moon' single and have an album 'Third Hand Prophecy' to follow shortly. After this gig the band take up an Ibiza Rocks Hotel residency, which makes some sense as long as clubbers can cope with some darkness with their grooves.

> CHEW LIPS (London)
Lo-fi electro dance grooves is the name of the game for this brand new London trio of Tigs, Will and James. Like Munch Munch, you can just tell there's a punk rock and DIY mentality lurking underneath the cheesy and minimal bleeps and beats. Add a dose of some twanging New Order basslines alongside the finest of casio rhythm tracks and a really rather powerful and hooky poptastic vocal from Tigs and you already have something more interesting to dance to than Crystal Castles!
