IPSO FACTO'S COPYRIGHT CONUNDRUM

The garage-poppers touch down at Guestival - and present us with a slightly mad philosophical conundrum. Should ideas be copyright from the moment of their intellectual composition? Discuss it with Ipso Facto - here and now!

Copyright is a legal concept, to protect the creator of any expressible form of an idea or information from copycats. Copycats are horrible creatures with beady little eyes and mangy fur. They prey on fresh young ideas, sinking in their teeth and draining them of all their originality.

But can copyright save all the young ideas? No, some poor ideas will be left out in the wilderness, waiting for a copycat to weasel it’s way through the long grass and strike at any moment.

"These cowardly and devious snakes will get away with this time and time again if we do not take action..."

Unfortunately these kind of ideas are usually the best. The problem is they can't be touched, they have no grounds in the physical world. They are free sprits, leaders, super beings.

Not even copyright can protect such unshackled ideas. Sound, sight, taste, smell, touch are all sensory experiences, the very essence of a group of people. Can this be protected from plagiarism?

An ever evolving, constantly changing idea cannot be saved. It cannot be tied down or labeled. If there is no label there can be no hero. Copycats know this and use it to their advantage.

These cowardly and devious snakes will get away with this time and time again if we do not take action. I ask you all to stand up and fight for all of our sakes, for all of our ideas, against these serpentine creatures. Together we will conquer this vulgar and tasteless affair!
