King Charles - Love Lust/Mr Flick 7"

King Charles

What on earth is this double A side about? King Charles seems to be an odd character, and people keep going on about his hair for some reason. I get the impression that he’s a bit of a wild arty type, which is good, but I’d never heard of him before this - so he could be a guy in a suit for all I know.

Either way, this double A side release from Mi7 Records is due out in the distant future of October 26th. So far away infact, that my promo MP3s have still got instructions on them such as (-1.5db drums). How exciting.

Love Lust’ is a great tune. Prophetic, and managing to somehow pull off a rather large sound, without compromising on the warmth. The vocals have a nice distorted, lofi sound as well, which doesn’t make it sound like it’s trying too hard to please anyone, although the interlude with the rapping…? ..Teeters on the edge of being cheesy and sounding like some bad London CREW. Luckily it’s only for a few seconds. There are parts of Kasabian in there too - but not the over-produced, arseholeish Kasabian that we know.

Mr Flick starts out with a horrfying suggestion of veering sideways into crap indie territory, but as the jaggy guitar, and bizarre electronic noises appear, you can breathe easy. The steering has been adjusted, and we’re back on track.

I like these songs - they’re obscure, and have a massive range of sounds in them. I’m not sure I get it yet though. There’s something I can’t put my finger on. It’s probably something you need to see live to decide either way - two tracks definitely aren’t enough.

Whilst I sadly am unable to make the Glasgow date due to drinking copious amounts of red wine, and eating Greek food elsewhere, you can go and report back to me. Dates below:

    great lyrics for love lust

Never let a woman go even when you know
She can always be replaced, she can always be replaced.
Oh lust only grows like anger and revenge
    Oh beauty comes and goes
But love stays until the end.

Never let a woman go even when you know
She can always be replaced, she can always be replaced.
Oh lust only grows like anger and revenge
    And beauty comes and goes
But love stays until the end.

I wrote you a song Mississippi Isabel,
I even sent you flowers when you fell ill.
You’ve the strength of the Greeks
    You are God's masterpiece,
    You're every triumph every victory
I believe in every breath you breathe.

And I always imagined you’d be by my side
Whether I’m hiding in the city or I’m tearing through the walls.
You’re only a yoke a noose on my throat
And if you’re beauty is a fortress then my love will be the moat.
Fall in love with her, fall in love with you I must.
I’ll consume every part of you to indulge my love lust.

Never let a woman go even when you know
She can always be replaced, she can always be replaced.
Oh lust only grows like anger and revenge
    Oh beauty comes and goes
But love stays until the end.

Never let a woman go even when you know…

With a guitar in my hand or a gun in my hand
I’d give it all up for a hand in my hand.
For the sun on my skin as the morning begins
I’d die in the dark just to feel your skin on my skin.
Never let a woman go even when you know…
Your soul, you’re love, you’re blood.
    Treasure every beating heart
That sets your soul on fire.
Love will set your soul on fire,
Love will set your soul on fire…

    Rapping?

Err....Mr Music Journo, I'm afraid you're wrong, brother. Love Lust has no rapping/spoken word - think you have it confused with Mr Flick, which does. Perhaps you should have another listen. Either way, this King Charles dude is FRESH.

  • Stephen McLeod Tue, 2009/09/08 - 9:31am

    Rapping?

Try it at 01:33 - rap/hip-hop/quick-spoken word.. Either way, not my cup of tea.

  • Artrocker Lover Wed, 2009/09/09 - 9:27am

    Rapping?

Err...Mr Music Journo, Love Lust really doesn't have any rapping - just had a listen. Perhaps you should too, brother. Think you have it confused with Mr Flick, which does. Either way, this King Charles guy is FRESH.

    re: rapping?

Like I said - whatever you wish to tag it, I'm not a fan of that particular section; be it rapping, Mongolian mouth music or Gregorian chanting.

If it is indeed the wrong song, which I don't believe it is, then it is down to the record company tagging them incorrectly, which I don't believe they have.

    Rapping?

Just listened to Love Lust on the King Charles myspace, and I can't seem to hear any 'interlude with rapping' ?? Great song though. I shall buy it when it comes out.
