The Psyche Out Musikland Big Band

The Psyche Out Musikland Big Band make a big thick excellent noise. It’s a dense sound, like a musical black hole that’s sucked in all manner of orbiting instruments and influences. There’s lots of twiddly guitar - doing what we used to call ‘hammer ons’ back in the day, much beloved of Eddie Van Halen and more recently embraced by the likes of Hot Club De Paris et al. There’s the odd parp of horn in there too, some choice shouting and something that sounds like a xylophone. The overall effect is akin to Planet Tortoise, Planet Lullaby for the Working Class and Planet Maths Class imploding.

Or as they say themselves on their myspace site: "Mogwai + Fugazi, naked, at a post-modern drugs party."

Download ‘My Name is Hanketill Brewer, My Name is Dith Pran’ - go on, treat yourself. You deserve it.

And while you’re at it, go and see them live. They’re touring at the beginning of April with Action Action.

They will play in your house

Also - I think there’s a gap in the tour schedule where the band are offering to do a gig in your front room. Or your friends’ front room. Or your gran’s old folks home’s front room. Or the local air base. Anywhere basically - they’re gig hungry. More details here: http://www.myspace.com/thepsycheoutmusiklandbigband
