If Stephen Malkmus had formed fIREHOSE with Mike Watt and George Hurley, they may have made music akin to Glasgow's COVERGIRLS. Yes, they're that good.

Looks like SXSW has just announced a few acts that will be appearing at the 2009 Music Festival.
Hello. You don't need to know much about me, apart from I'm a music industry stooge, and I say what's on my mind. Generally about the music industry.

This one’s for you folkies out there. I was introduced to Blind Pilot this week through 3hive and I fell in love right away with the band’s genuine and mesmerizing acoustic compositions.

I've been banging on about the AVETT BROTHERS for a while. Drenched in critical acclaim and fan frenzy in the US, they remain relative unknowns in blighty. Which is a damn shame, as no one does earnest, heartfelt Americana like these guys.
Vulture cites Nancy Drew and Lewis Carroll (and the gallery’s PR name checks Hitchcock, too), but to me, Holly Andres’ Sparrow Lane photos drip with a fantastic nostalgia for suburban Cold War terror.

ELECTRIC OWLS is a new project from Andy Herod of The Comas with contributions from members of his band, Archers of Loaf and Band of Horses. None too shabby it is too - as this mp3 from RCRDLBL will testify.
As names go, Ming Ming and the Ching Chings is pretty questionable. I think it's the fact that it manages to be similar to both The Ting Tings and Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong that makes it grate so.

Some pics from a recent DIE! DIE! DIE! gig in Auckland, posted on the excellent Einstein Musical Journal blog.
Orlando suggests that when we first see Nic Nell, we're likely to hate him. But we should persevere...
...Killer blast of pop punk from Auckland's The Sneaks. Stephen Malkmus has left Pavement, recruited Mike Watt on bass, written some songs with Rivers Cuomo and formed The Sneaks.
...Excellent track from their excellent new (to the UK) album Forts (released this week, expect review here soon).
...Joyous ideas packed art pop from Cardiff seven piece. Sounds like Art Brut, The Research and Palomar got wasted on absinthe and took the stage together at an open mic...
THE COVERGIRLS
Best new band in Glasgow, by a mile!
...Francis Bacon
Any more snooker cliches?
...Q65 “Revival”
Second track sounds like a more snarly mid-60s Who. Excellent.
...Q65 “Revival”
First one sounds like Sean Ryder having a flashback but second track is a killer.
...Only By The Night
once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copehagen?
...Francis Bacon
The more I watch it, the more I like it.
...Only By The Night
Sex on Fire is good once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copenhagen
