SXSW DOWNLOAD: The Golden Filter - Hide Me

Unlike most folks in Austin, windswept electro-disco duo The Golden Filter actually have legitimate reason to be hoovering Lone Stars: they just announced their debut album, Voluspa (a spa of volume, perhaps?), is coming out on June 15 in the U.S and April 26 in the UK. No word on who’s releasing it Stateside, but Brille will be handling the overseas duties. Tejas residents/visitors have three opportunities to catch them this week (info after the break), all others can do like us and bliss out to the LP’s first single below.

MGMT fan writes “MGMT” on her breasts on 4chan (NSFW)

In an effort to get message boarding bros to vote for in some meaningless poll, an indie music fan of the popular band promised to show off her alternative breasts to bros who were hanging out on 4chan.

UNCONFIRMED RUMOR: The Strokes’ next album will attempt to reach Bro Humor/Tween Markets

The is widely known as the modernized bro-ified version of Weird Al Yankovich adapted for the modern world bc they make zany viral videos. Their brand of humor is the ‘it’ style of humor for teens on the internet across the USA. Julian Casablancas, lead singer of the Strokes ‘collab-ed’ with the on a song called ‘Boom box.’ I am not sure if this video is supposed to ‘be funny’ or if it is supposed to be a ‘real song.’ Probs just the opportunity to make a zany video.

The Strokes were widely considered the #1 band of the 2000s, so it will be interesting to see if this viral video promotion hurts or helps the Strokes + JCasablancas solo project. Maybe this was some sort of strategic attempt to be part of the new ‘Dick in a Box’, getting over 100 million viral video views. Wonder if modern tweens who never heard the hit album ‘Is This It’ are becoming familiar with the Strokes brand, or if they will just think they are some weird old band like The Cars.

Album Review: Gorillaz

Gorillaz - ‘Plastic Beach’

Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
My first reaction to this album was to be wowed by its stellar line up. Then I remembered a quote by Mark E Smith, who features himself on ‘Plastic Beach’, about the Sven-era England team:

“A team of superstars is like a supergroup. It’s like picking the best guitarist in Britain, the best drummer and the best singer, and expecting them to produce something that isn’t prog-rock mush.”

Club Mofo's 7th birthday on Saturday, Club Babyhoney tonight

Lady Miss K

Good news for London town folks, as there are two most awesome sounding club nights happening this weekend.  Club Motherfucker celebrates its 7th birthday on Saturday with a line up almost too good for words, including Friendship and Lady Miss freaking Kier from Dee Lite.  If you’ve never been to Mofo, for shame.  You’re missing out on the most fun you can have in this dirty old town. Remedy this by going to Bardens on Saturday 13th.

Friday night, and Club Baby Honey at the Buffalo Bar has to be worth a look in.  It’s a new indiepop night every second Friday of the month at the Buffalo Bar just outside the Highbury & Islington tube station. They put on bands they love and DJs from Twee As Fuck and So Tough! So Cute! play Indiepop, C86, Twee, Soul, Girl-Groups, Post-Punk and New Wave for a packed, smiling dancefloor….

Is the Lady Gaga + Beyonce Video ‘trying too hard’ or should u just let it give u an erection?

Costume change. Nudity. Dancing. Singing. Weird hair style. Colors. Overrated plot.
Is / Beyonce ‘relevant’?
Does their ‘art’ mean anything?
Are female diva musicians more than just ’sex objects’?
Did this video just ‘rip off’ Kill Bill?
