The excellent Hunx & His Punx are touring the UK in April.

Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, and Google at TFMA

Andy Serkis as Ian Dury

Film Review : Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll
There have been several music ‘biopics’ over the years, and there seems to be a rash of them recently with Control, Telstar, Nowhere Boy and now this. Who’s next? Elvis Costello ‘My Aim Is True’ or Paul Weller ‘The Ego Has Landed’? I think we must be sitting at a time where all the film commissioners know/like the musicians whose biopics are suggested to them. Being a musician and having an interest in bands certainly seems to be a common ‘hobby’ these days, although maybe now it’s the parental dream, like getting your kid to be a footballer or child star actor.

VIDEO Footage & Critical Reaction to Animal Collective’s Guggenheim Art Show

After Animal Collective’s art show at the Guggenheim, the Alt Report tracked ‘how it was covered’ by internet outlets. While most internet outlets have mastered how they will cover Animal Collective’s musical output for the next 10-20 years, just wanted to monitor the relevant alt/mainstream internet 2 see if any 1 would ‘pan’ the show, since so many twitterers called it ‘a huge waste of time and money.’

Wild Palms cover Bjork, give away track

Wild Palms are giving away the B-side to their new single to all and sundry. It’s a cover of Human Behaviour by Bjork and you can get it after the break.

3 Idiots, A Single Man, Bank Charges Fightback Part 2, Talk To Your Computer and Short Web Addresses

PARSLEY’S COMMLOCK
Film Review : 3 Idiots
Stumbled by accident into my third Bollywood film ever last week. It concerns an Indian engineering school, and 3 students under considerable pressure to graduate with distinction so that they can variously lift themselves out of poverty, or fulfil parental dreams.

Black Daniel, and Finally: The Inevitable BBC 6 Music Post

So, I’ve finally sent a slightly embarrassing and uptight email to the BBC complaining about the bizarre (and I suspect, politically motivated) decision to axe of BBC 6Music.

If, like me, you’re a listener (and can put aside the temptation to let it disappear just so Lauren Laverne’s show will vanish as well) and value the station’s admirable adherence to playing something different, why not email them too?

Bandicoot- Jurassic Warfare

Bandicoot- Jurassic Warfare
 8/10

Stepping into the footprints left by Be Your Own Pet, Bandicoot’s bratty punk rock sounds ever so similar to the Tennessee teens. The difference is that Bandicoot actually sound like a genuine punk band; rough, unpolished and with loads of teenage angst. Be Your Own Pet, while fun, sleazy and chic, always sounded like they were faking it, just a little bit.

Dum Dum Girls / A Grave With No Name at The Lexington 26 February 2010

Dum Dum Girls

It’s a tempting offer. “Come upstairs, we’re playing Neu!” Ok, we were going to the gig anyway, but it’s nice to see some enthusiasm from the promoters.

Once we are in the cooler, quieter room above, the gentle rhythms of classic Krautrock tick along pleasurably and we await the first band.

The Bowery Riots, and OH MY GOD, MORRISSEY

Last night I met a man in a bar who really likes Morrissey. There are bands that I really like – for example: by a combination of accident and desire, I’ve seen loveable scamps Art Brut a moderately unhealthy seven or eight times.
