>>>ARTROCKER 38<<<
>"...your altruistic, right-on, rock-action bible..."<
Of course we'll be running all of our usual listings this week but there's
only one happening you're really waiting for the news about isn't there
Artrockers? That's right, next Tuesday is the first "ARTROCKER" club night!
It's a whole different concept to our "Rock and Roll Club" nights at the
Metro because this one really is YOUR club kids, you're going to get free
membership, which means free entry to every goddamm Tuesday rock and roll
happening at The Buffalo Bar! Put that bluey back in your pocket my friend
(Unless you're not a member, in which case, hand it over right now) and no,
we don't need to check any chickenshit guest list because you'll have your
own membership card, just flash it at our highly trained door professionals
(Tamsin and Delia?) and enter into the whirled of music below. We'll have
two bands a week, topped off this week (23rdJuly) by the riot-inducing
Hotwires, top r'n'r disc spinners, a stall stocked by our very good friends
at the Rough Trade shop with this weeks AR Recommended Top 20 sounds.... and
other stuff too!
Have you gone gooey? I know I have! Community Baby, you know what I mean?
Us, you, together in a dark, comfy, groovy cellar digging the stuff we dig
to the exclusion of all that shit stuff we hate. Dreams can can come true,
but it has to start with you! Mail us back right now, I mean right now you
Artrocking mothers, and we'll whip up your card and have it ready for
collection on Tuesday.
We'll remind you about it b4 the end of the week but let's get together and,
in the highly original and oft quoted words of our very good friends theD4.
"PARTY!" (And it's 'lil honda of "dunno' don't care" fame's birthday too so
the word party is apt. APT!)
Here's what we have coming up:
July 30th - Fraff - The Electric Shocks
August 6th - The 22 - 20's
August 13th - the Speed Killers
August 20th - The Hotwires
September 7th - Grease Monkeys + The Wednesdays
September 10th - Black Madonnas
September 17th - The Stuckups
For nothing? You're 'avin' a giraffe aint ya mate?
And speaking of the a-4mentioned D4, what a great night at the Garage last
Wednesday, sweat-box city! We like that. The Bristols (featuring debutant
Artrocker contributor Parsley on Keyboards), Speed Killers, The D4, all
aces. And Ten Benson cracked it at Subterrania on Friday, once you'd made it
through Checkpoint Charlie that is! Jack had his biro confiscated for God's
sake. Normally I refuse to enter venues that insist on rummaging around in
your privates, but we were there to support our friends so I surrendered to
the indignity of it all. Next time I have to go there, may that day be
distant, I'm going to get hold of a cholostomy bag and fill it with dog
shit, let 'em rummage through that! I do have some sympathy with them
though, The Grove after dark is scary as hell, all packs of dogs and
dealers, made me homesick for Brixton to be honest. And leave it to London
Transport to cast a shadow over a great night, we beetled up to Notting Hill
as fast as our rocked out legs would carry us only to be told that all east
bound trains had finished. This was at 12.05 on a Friday night for God's
sake, 24 hour city my arse! Maybe I'm just spoiled by The Victoria Line,
last Friday night train is after 1.00, which is still pathetic but one hell
of an improvement on midnight! Anyhoo, result was ?20 I can't afford for one
of Ken "Basher" Livingstone's massively over-priced cabs. Watching the meter
click over every 20 yards is like the countdown to your own death, or
bankrupcy, whichever comes first.
Compare and contrast: Brighton Beach, some posh git playing his record
collection to a bunch of wand wavers, a missed opportunity there God, one
big tsunami and you could have done us all a big favour, and put a whole
load of E dealers out of business to boot! Not to worry though, the whole
sad "scene"'s in it's death throes anyhoo! Bangin'.

>>>Heavy Rotation<<<
Raising the temperatures this week: the best song about summer.
Here I am in a secret location, miles away from Artrocker Central, i.e.
London, and surprisingly I don't have to get up every morning and remind
myself of the mantra; "this is July-this is July-this is July", because I
only have to look out the window to see... yes... the SUN... and not only
that, but also... the SEA... and thousands of bikinis, smell of sunscreen,
volleyball players, fishing boats, sailing boats... and you may say fun
stops with the dusk, but the nights are full of a whole lotta rock n roll,
too.
So, with the very bad intention of making all of you jealous, here's the
best song about summer... and it was about time:
They walk and I'll walk, they twist and I'll twist, they shimmy and I'll
shimmy, they fly and I'll fly... Well they're out there having fun in the
warm...

>>>DELIA'S GIG GUIDE.<<<
hello ladies and gents here you go. was getting a bit wound up by this but
then remembered to connect my computer and all was well. durrr
oh i'm sorry...just got the new art-rocker 'compendium' and i've been going
on and on and on. okay will try not to blah at you all so much...its cos
i've got a computer at home now so you get all my 2 in the morning
rambling....
>LAST WEEK<
Weds: Garage- D4 / Speedkillers / The Bristols
The Bristols are great (in my world...) very simple beat in Dave Clark Five
stomp-u-lite style with French girl singer who would be ....hmm..lets say
'odd' in any other band but is perfect for this band. They're not
retro-style or 60s influenced...if someone taped them and told you that it
was Sam The Sham And The Pharoahs with Francois Hardy baby sister singing
you'd probably believe them.
Speedkillers are an Art-rocker punk happening and will no doubt be picked
over elsewhere to great effect...somewhere between a rock and an indie Sham
69
D4 have sold out the garage on a Wednesday night. we're all a bit overhot
and cross (one of the bouncers tells me later 'oh dear the air conditioning
is broken! i didn't know they had air conditioning i say...he admitted it
hasn't worked for a while...free sauna !) but there's a sort of (note i'm
trying to stop the over use of 'kinda') party atmosphere with Irene
art-rocker playing a good blend of the sort of records that make people go
'oh i love this one!' excitedly.
when d4 come on its a done deal that they're gonna be loved. they've been
touring incessantly for what seems like months and everyone that's caught
them has crammed into the garage to say goodbye. its kinda goodtime rocking
punk music. bit like the dictators maybe.
Thurs: Buffalo Bars- Holly Golightly/ The Rebel.
Bruce (hollys drummer) has had a puncture so everyone arrives too late for
soundcheck. no problem says holly we won't have one then. some bands like to
soundcheck. some bands like to soundcheck for hours and hours and hours and
fuss and fiddle and faff and at the end they still sound shit cos their
songs are rubbish and no amount of soundchecking can do anything about it.
if the p.a. works pretty much okay so the singings loud enough and all the
amps are your own you should be able to just show up and play really. holly
did anyway and it sounded fine...
I won't bang on about the rebel (again) cos i have said many times genius
etc etc..
Saturday.in the park near me they're having a festival...stalls selling meat
and coco cola...all the signs are in spanish (i think..), lots of smiley
happy people mill around eating what looks like cows bums and sucking
lollipops. no one has any alchohol and there are no snogging couples...odd
festival!! my radar soon picks up on the fact that i have stumbled upon a
spanish christian fest!!! that explains the polite well dressed teens who
say 'excuse me' rather than pushing me to the ground and laughing....a
christian rap band (no fuck yo mamas here i think!) is followed by a 3
girl/3 boy dance troupe dressed in pink. yes they are teenage boys dressed
in glittery pink shirts and have short shiny hair. definitely christians.
they dance (rather well) to music that sounds like sandie shaw winning era
Eurovision song contest entries with lots of cheesy grins and 80s teen movie
style dance moves (wouldn't have thought christian mum and dad would have
approved of them watching 'thriller' to learn that move but then jackos a
christian isn't he?)
there quickly follows (well organized these christos!) a mime troop!!!
yes....teenage girls and boys in whited out faces and black and white
outfits doing mime!!! definitely christians. the story goes something
like....a boy is vain and gets tempted by lots of GIRLS!!! and another boy
tries to make him SMOKE!!! and i think he may even be offered ALCHOHOL!!!!!
all the while another chap (who i rekin is jesus cos they havne't made him
wear the same cheesy baseball cap the others are wearing...jesus was way
cool as king misiile said..) keeps miming 'naw mate you wanna come and hang
out with me cos i loves you!!!' moves to him and in the end when the
temptation gets too much for the boy jesus jumps in and gets drunk, stoned
and loved up and then (wait for it ..) crucified....so it's ok to do what
you want cos jesus will save you? maybe i didn't quite get that one...
a man starts a long rant about something (in spanish but i rekin its about
your old man god again..) and another man taps me on the shoulder 'god bless
you' he says as he shakes my hand!! does he know i'm a baby killing/priest
eating satanist or does he just say that to everyone? i decide to leave in
case they spot me as an unbeliever and duff me up...
Saturday pm Bull And Gate: la monda???(i think thats what they're called)
sound kind of like a slower more considered dweeb except with 2 girls/1 boy
instead of 2 boys/1 girl.
Speed of sound-scary fairground organ, a guitar that sounds like duane eddy
if he'd been a bootleg-link wray fan and 3 vocalists..make a soundtrack/pop
retro noise.
Fosca: imagine if you will (say that in a tomorrows world voice and it
sounds okay...) a robert palmer video of 'addicted to love' with robert
palmer dropping the james bond macho impersonation and re-appearing as a
bleach blonde who says too the ladies...come on ladies! less of the po-face!
lets cheer up and bit and you 2 can play keyboards in a human league/gary
numan style, you can play some pop cello moodiness and i'll play at being a
kind of jolly matronly marc almond type singer chappie and play a bit of
dave gedge guitar now and then and sometimes you can help me out on some
super 100% proof indie-pop sha la la/ba bab bas...and that's probably
nothing like what Fosca sound like but it might help a bit...
Tuesday: Band practise. funny how everything you play sounds like something
else. We have some new songs....we just wrote a Kinks song, a Seeds song, a
Donovan song and My Old Mans a Dustman.
This reviews/gig guide thing was brought to you whilst listening to some
excellent Trojan ska and calypso comps...top-hole!
email your auntie delia at deliadansette@hotmail.com with gigs and stuff.

rocky punky blah blah blah and i didn't love it last time i saw it but my
friend jo's seen them about 3 times now and loves them, so there you go.

likes Little Barrie but don't let that put you off.. i heard a 7" a while
back and it was really good but i can't remember why and now i can't find
it....Noonday underground are great...kinda swirly 60s organ sound and a

delight.
**Bull And Gate- left this one til last cos i'm guesting on drums for the

drumming will be great!, Milky Wimpshake are kinda indie-pop rock with
excellent lyrics, Tender Trap is 3 fifths of marine research and sound
alternately poppy, soppy, electro-boppy and a bit punky too but that doesn't
rhyme. some band called futureheads too who i dunno...
>Friday:
**Dirty Water Club- The Buff Medways- yeah you know. moddy/garagey/punky
whoish...v good...
**Garage- Electric Frankenstein! Keelercore! hard rocking monsters.

aright and rather good..
**Metro- Major Matt Mason, The Beauty Shop...a Shoeshine tour along the
folky/poppy/country-noir line of things...

>Saturday:
**Notting Hill Arts Club- 4pm-8pm and free! Amp, Yellow 6...noisy
electronicy bleep blop monstery

soul, pay as u go cartel and loads loads more and free so everybody love

retro soully rnb stuffs...
>Sunday: TIDY YOUR ROOMS UP YOU DIRTY STOP OUTS!
>Monday:
**100 club- Jiving Miss Daisy- eight piece big band play swingy/jive stuff!
if you get to this early enough (bout 7.30pm i think) you get a lesson in
swing dance and then you get to dance around pretending you're um....your
grandad??? but its great honest. the original rock & roll
**Cherry Jam- Mcalmont and butler- sounds like motown missing hits.
**Spice Of Life- The Realistics- NY power garage R&B punkers with that all
important we use the same laundaurette as the strokes connection.
>Tuesday:
**well...unless you already have a ticket for the Suicidal Tendencies
legendary skate-thrash punk-up at the mean fiddler you are in big trouble if
you don't hop along to the buffalo bars in highbury and islington for the
first night of the art-rocker club!!! i know this is a corporate whore

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry
into a patriotic fervour, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It
both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of
war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind
has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the
citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by
patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." - - Julius
Caesar

She will always salute a single magpie.

>>>RADIO RADIO<<<
Driving home from Essex's finest, ahem, seaside resort, Clacton on Sea,
relieved to have avoided the fatboy resort, we tuned into the mighty and
revamped Radio 2 to catch 'Never mind the Horlicks', a Tom Robinson
presented history of punk, yes another one, and I find myself forced to
eat my words about Radio 2.
It was crass and throwaway with no discernable thread, and seemed to simply
use a series of soundbite scraps of interview with some of the 'key
players'. There were indeed some key persons and learned folks but poorly
used, and it was all underscored by a backdrop of 'appropriate releases'.
For instance, a theme dwelt on by Robinson was the plethora of late
seventies releases inspired by the DIY attitude of punk, and yet at that
stage they had not played a single independent released track - certainly
hadn't mentioned The Buzzcocks Spiral Scratch or New Hormones Records! Soon
afterwards we are played that Banshees 'punk' classic 'Happy House' ........
I think not.
The show went on to lamely cover punk influenced scenes that covered the
entire 25 years since then in 15 minutes, and included Grunge via 'Teen
Spirit'; a real wind-up with it's comparison to the Acid House scene, a
scene far removed from the political, altruistic, and anti-commercial
attitude of DIY punk; a good analogy with the US hiphop scene; and to cap it
all a comparison of punk to Pop Idol by soundbiting McLaren as a pop
impressario and Lydon as manipulated celebrity!
The Beeb does not seem to consider pop worthy of a mature critique, although
I have enjoyed some of the Radio 2 documentaries such as the 60's garage
shows and indeed most of Stuart MaConie's Saturday night sessions. The Beeb
should look at the success of Mojo and relative merit of TV shows like
"Classic Albums" (unlike South Bank Shows) to see that we are interested,
interested, and can actually handle a bit of qualitative criticism.
The problem probably lies in the fact that production companies buy this
airtime off the beeb and these documentaries, 9 times out of 10, amount to
hour long adverts for record label's releases (take the REM and Moby South
Bank Shows)- at least on Xfm you know which ones the adverts are !
'Horlicks' was probably just cheap radio for the beeb.
Nice exposure if you can get it ......sorry , BUY IT.

>LAST WEEK.<
+wed10/7 Empire- SIOUXIE & THE BANSHEES : tales of London traffic, Finsbury
Park to Shepherds Bush = 2h 15mins. Arrived there late, Marina from
www.organart.com got me in. Far from their peak, still worth two hours
stuck on the buses. And I really didn't get the encore song with ExGirl.
Then went to Underworld for a late, short headlining set by POLYPHONIC
SPREE : as SoundtracksOfOurLives are to LynyrdSkynyrd, they are like a more
musical version of Flaming Lips (read as "they can play"), because of what
they look like [all 25 (!!!) of them wearing tunics] I have problems in
taking them seriously, and I was expecting them to come out and sing "Jesus
Christ Superstar" at anytime. Astonishingly enjoyable. They will be hot and
play at the Empire..

>>>Yeah Yeah Yeah's - The Garage 7/7/02<<<
Tonight the Yeah Yeah Yeah's are on fire and they are going to take everyone
down in a blaze of glory with them. The sweating walls of the Garage are
crackling and hissing with life.
You can count me in because if tonight is the precedent to the rest of their
career they have already found their niche in my rock'n' roll hall of fame.
A faultless set of new songs from their 5 track EP and forthcoming debut LP,
are played for a crowd who are working themselves up into adulation with the
new queen of rock Karen O as their muse. She lurches herself around the
stage, her mic lead loosely disguised as a whip, leather glove about to be
devoured by the power of her own vocal chords. She is hot and everyone knows
it. If I could be anyone tonight, it would be her.
Nick and Brian follow suit with the tightest live show I have seen them do
yet. Why would they need a bass when there is so much soul oozing from their
finger tips? Why, when they have Karen O's lush vocals at the helm?
Someone's Dad is plucked out of the crowd by Karen who is seemingly amused
and bewildered that there is some grey haired old man moshing in the pit.
Fair point!
'We ...uh...wrote...this song...er...especially for...ahhh...you' she toys
in her southern-like drawl as an intro to the death metal soaring Art Star,
(the one where her larynx sounds like it has been shredded by razor blades).
Every song is just so goddamn good. I demand all to wash the word 'hype' out
of their mouths out with soap. It all seems quite effortless for a band who
have been in existence all of two years. Hearts are a-blazing. Songs of sex,
love and her man are
enough to send pulsing racing far on into the night...and some.

>Rocket from the Crypt 'Hot Charity/Cut And Play' (Swami)
Two of ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT's most elusive vinyl-only releases together-FOR

6-song 12" Cut Carefully and Play. Hot Charity made the top 10 of NME list

major influence. The Cut Carefully and Play 12" is scathing, punk bliss full
of modulated horns and an even more dense and frantic guitar attack. Hot
Charity's embossed sleeve will be replicated on the CD cover, with the Cut
and Play artwork delegated to the back.

>THE MICROPHONES 'Lanterns' (K Records)
New 7" of pop-topia from Phil Elvrum and company. The "Lanterns/Antlers"
record is a 2 sided single. Neither of the songs are the main song. They are
opposites of each other and they are inseparable.
>THE STOOGES 'Fun House' (Sundazed)
Sundazed re-pressing on 180 gram vinyl. The Stooges' first album was
produced by a classically trained composer; their second was supervised by
the former keyboard player with the Kingsmen, and if that didn't make all
the difference, it at least indicates why Fun House was a step in the right
direction. Producer Don Gallucci took the approach that the Stooges were a
powerhouse live band, and their best bet was to recreate the band's live set
with as little fuss as possible. As a result, the production on Fun House
bears some resemblance to the Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie" ? the
sound is smeary and bleeds all over the place, but it packs the low-tech
wallop of a concert pumped through a big PA, bursting with energy and
immediacy. This is a landmark album. Maybe the best proto-punk album ever
>MC5 'Back in the USA' (Sundazed)
Sundazed pressing of the original master tapes!! While lacking the
monumental impact of Kick Out the Jams, the MC5's second album is in many
regards their best and most influential, its lean, edgy sound anticipating
the emergence of both the punk and power-pop movements to follow later in
the decade.

>Gogogo Airheart
Gogogo Airheart first assembled in San Diego, CA, in 1997, with a lineup
consisting of bassist A. Vyas, guitarist and vocalist Michael Vermilion,
drummer J. Hough, and Benjamin White on guitar, keyboards. Inspired by the
style of bands such as locals Swindle and joining explosive selections of
punk rock, soul, and wild experimentation, the San Diego crew soon began to
make a buzz all across the local club scene. At first, months after the
group's initial rehearsals, they decided on self-recording a considerable
number of cassettes, and not long after entered their first-ever touring
season. Still in 1997, the band offered Gogogo Airheart, their debut album;
Love My Life...Hate My Friends, the crew's second major recording,
ultimately hit record stores in 1998. During the following 12 months, the
California team released the EP Things We Need, prior to the offering of yet
another eponymous full-length in 2000, by then through the GSL record label.
In 2002, the band released their finest album to date, 'Exitheusa' ~ All

>GOGOGO AIRHEART, A LIVE REVIEW FROM OUR FRIEND 'THE FOUNDRY', IN NEW YORK FOR
>THE SIREN FESTIVAL.
>>>A first visit to New York - by 'the foundry'<<<
Early days but i'm pretty sure i like this city, what i've seen of it. It
has a lot of parralels with london but good points as well. ba boom. I
actually feel really relaxed and comfortable here despite the pace and i
like the spontaneity, like just walking in any direction and finding what
you want even though you were'nt looking for it. For example, just went out
to get some lunch, bought some records in Other Records and got a free
ticket for a secret vines show at CBGBs, so i guess that's what i'm doing
tonight. last night was cool, our evening went thusly.....
If it's red walls and heavy curtains it must be a curry house, complete with
bring your own beer, red stripe and corporate busting budvar, except they're
calling it czechvar now. Our destination is the knitting factory, a lot like
the Jazz Cafe cut in half, centre stage, like a wedding cake. We miss the
fist band for the sake of a good peshwari naan, i'm sure you're with us. We
arrive true london-style as the band we came to see, GoGoGoAirheart, take to
the stage. the drummer is bare of foot and bowled of hair, the guitar goes
shimmer-shimmer or chikka chikka, the singer goes 'OW' betwixt bouts of
spastic dancing and the bass player basses like a one man oingo boingo (LA
frat-party-funk legends in their own neighbourhood, it's LA, what can i tell
you.) GGGAH are proof that if you move slowly enough the world eventually
catchs up with you. Sweep the leg johnny are headlining, it's their farewell
show and because we don't like them even the airconditioning cannot convince
us to stay so we say farewell also.
Vines review will follow,
The Foundry.

>>>YOU SAY THE NICEST THINGS<<<
>THE MAN FROM V.2 GETS A WEE BIT TESTY WITH US, YOU, THE UNIVERSE AND
>EVERYTHING.
dear artrockers,
Where to start - that's the question... there are so many levels of
wrong-headed bum-fuckery in your postings against the company i work at that
it really is difficult to pick a starting point. in fact, i am annoyed to
find myself even trying, but i've weakened and given in to the temptation
(undoubtedly some class of corporate-related disease, derived from taking it
up the ass from the droids i work 'under').
however, what the fuck does your latest gimp-mailer know about v2 or any of
the people that work here? very little methinks. artrocker covers some
great bands and features some great writing, but the tedious, child-like,
anality of some of your contributors is too much to bear. these infintile,
ill-informed rants are nothing if not an embarassment to artrocker - or
certainly should be. although i suspect that you think these are
insightful, well targeted critiques.
sure, there are some idiots at v2. there are even a couple of people who
know nish about music but luckily they work in areas where it doesn't really
matter what they do or don't know.
v2 has released it's fair share of shite records. it has also released -
contrary to what tomnottomartrocker(sure!) dribbles - a number of
outstanding records by some fucking unique people (eg. howe gelb/giant
sand/op8, grandaddy, mercury rev, elbow, the high llamas, the olivia tremor
control). not only has it done this at the expense of some expense (sic),
but at a staggeringly large expense - so stop talking out of your arse. the
notion that in order to care about music you need to start your own label is
laughable. you seem to think that we are intrinsically evil. sorry to piss
on your little parade, but the harsh reality is that most bands need (and
occasionally even want) to sign to bigger labels so that they can 1. make
the records the way they want to, 2. tour them without relying on sleeping
on some strangers soggy carpet (possibly romantic, but actually not very
much fun), and 3. have them promoted reasonably well. this is a fact and i
can guarantee you that there are very few bands that would not jump at the
chance of a deal that enables this to happen. virtually all bands that tell
you otherwise are lying. so basically, grow up.
there is only a tiny number of small labels that are worth the paper this
isn't printed on (eg. fierce panda, world serpent, ace of discs, susan
lawley). all of the stupid accusations levelled at us in your various
diatribes can be dismissed/overlooked/laughed off and generally attributed
to voidoid muppetry.
however, what i find impossible to swallow is the outright two-facedness of
artrocker itself. oh yes kids, your altruistic, right-on, rock-action bible
is run by some blatantly two-faced, sneaky motherfuckers. let me illustrate
this point for you. the night v2 signed the datsuns, myself and some
friends, were down at the good ship acid ranch to see the modey lemon.
there we were, enjoying the sounds, the alcohol and for the most part, the
good company. the von bondies's manager introduced me to either tom or paul
artrocker (can't remember which - c'mon, i was a little drunk) and we
proceeded to chat amiably and enthusiastically about all sorts of stuff -
music, magazines, payola. really, all sorts of stuff which we seemed to find
interesting, funny or infuriating. so, artrocker boy is getting all pally
and asks me to write for his esteemed ezine thing (or whatever snapy little
title you've got for yourself). not just once, but two or three times that
night he asked me to contribute. i was a vaguely flattered by this but
politely declined on the grounds that i'm not a writer. so to find the very
next week, my own badself slagged off in no uncertain terms in artrocker
came as something of a surprise. you can imagine the other feelings that
cropped up too. it appears as though there are hidden depths to your
shallowness. i shouldn't be so surprised really. there are more than a few
of you sly types out there that are all friendly, and full of how're you
doing man, then snigger behind the bike sheds about us 'corporate cunts',
chiefly because it gives some purpose to your hollow little world and makes
you feel cool. i know who some of you are, and i'm coming for the rest.
gimme the music and fuck your petty bullshit.
in summary, the core of v2 rocks harder than arthur lee on a bag of bolivian
bugle and you're not fit to touch the hem of my garment. cocksuckers. do
your homework. i'll be fairly surprised if you print this. if you do, i
look forward to your undoubtedly vitriolic response. feel free to include
my full name, it would be good to know yours too, along with the other
half-wits that hide behind first-name anonymity.
i mean it, man.
pip pip.

> Why do people insist on labels, reference points and the ramblings of people
> that actively encourage Oasis?
Anyone who's spent any amount of time flyering will know how true this is,
and count the number of times to you see the word 'ex' or 'of' in the ad to
encourage people to go to see someone's new band. Why do people have to be
reminded that David Grubbs was in Gastr Del Sol or John Parrish works with
PJ Harvey ? But believe me they do.
Yes major A&R aren't to be trusted. Read Steve Albini's infamous rage
against the scene for the basic math. But the problem with that particular
viewpoint is it lets the band off the hook - take responsibility for your
actions goddamnit.
The number of times I've been told by a band that they've signed up with
this or that agent because they know they'll get more money out of people.
Ultimately leading to the ?30 ticket prices you've already complained about.
They get $$ in their eyes the moment the A&R guy opens his wallet,
ironically only to have it all lifted from them later with such deft light
fingered-ness it would make Fagin proud.

>>>Air Guitar:<<<
Art Reconsidering Rock Music Fri 12 July - Mon 26 Aug 2002 Milton Keynes
Gallery
Admission free
This summer MK G (Milton Keynes Gallery) presents Air Guitar, an exhibition
exploring the relationship between contemporary art and rock music from the
perspective of the artist as rock music fan. The exhibition examines how
music from the 1970s, '80s and '90s has provided an enduring frame of
reference for a generation of visual artists.
Curated by Emma Mahony for MK G, Air Guitar brings together work by emerging
and well-established artists and includes photography, video, painting,
drawing and neon work. Most of the pieces included have been made in the
last few years. Jessica Voorsanger, Bob & Roberta Smith, Frances Stark, Sam
Durant, Luke Caulfield, Seamus Nicolson and Peter Harris will be exhibiting,
as well as many others.
MK G is producing a fully illustrated catalogue to accompany the exhibition,
with texts by Mark Wilsher and Emma Mahony. The exhibition will tour to
Manchester, Nottingham and Carlisle. It has been supported by the Arts
Council of England National Touring Programme.

>>>LAUGHING OUTLAW ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF FINAL NEW CHRISTS ALBUM 'WE GOT THIS!'<<<
The saddest news for true lovers of rock and roll action in 2001 was the
disbanding of The New Christs, triggered in part by the demise of their US
label, Man's Ruin. Led by the former lead singer of Radio Birdman,
Rob Younger, The New Christs released several classic LPs, EPs and singles
over
two decades with various line-ups. An album, recorded in Sydney during
2001, was left unfinished and it appeared that the world would never get to
hear the band's powerful final statement.
Now, Sydney's Laughing Outlaw Records is proud to announce that the final
New Christs album, entitled 'We Got This!', is now finished and ready to be
unleashed world-wide. The release date is September 30th 2002 when the album
will be available for all to hear in earth-shuddering stereo sound. This
last will and testament from one of the greatest garage rock bands will be
available on CD and double vinyl.
The impending release of 'We Got This' is very timely in light of the
success of 'The Essential Radio Birdman (1974-1978)', released on Sub Pop in
the US last year and the excitement that surrounded Radio Birdman's farewell
Australian tour during May and June 2002.

served up by the tapestry djs, including layers of big star, todd rundgren,
