The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are an indie pop band from New York City.[1] Their first album was a self-released EP which came out in 2007 through the Painbow label.[2] Their debut self-titled full length album was released on February 3, 2009 via Slumberland Records.[3] The band name comes from an unpublished children's story of the same title that a friend of singer Kip Berman wrote.[4][5] The group's self-titled album peaked at #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.[6] On September 22, 2009, they released Higher Than the Stars, their second EP. I was really excited to see 8 bit shoegazers The Depreciation Guild tonight when they play with super-hyped, big-thing-for-next-2-months The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart at The Middle East tonight. And it’s impossible to keep up with who is playing where despite ones’ best efforts so you have to just kind of wander around with very little plan and hope you find something good.  Luckily, I went to a show...

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart MP3s

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart We are gathered in the relatively confined space that is Upstairs at The Garage to see three acts that have been flagged up as having the potential to break out of such small arenas and dominate much bigger venues. First up we get Egyptian Hip-Hop, a very young bunch of Mancunian lads who touch on any number of musical trends, without really seeming...
The word "twee" gets thrown around a lot when talking about The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. They are cute, with tendencies towards la-la choruses and cardigans ("we have three extras just in case"). But what you don’t hear a lot, at least not yet, is how much they rock. Not the way, say, Cheeseburger rocks, but singer Kip keeps his guitar in buzzsaw mode and the...
