Wavves Latest News

Photo: Olly Hearsey So we’ve published our own ‘best of 2009’ list. Now it’s the turn of some of those bands we featured to let us know theirs. First up is The Vivian Girls, who pick out a fine top 10 of garage pop and lo fi fuzz. Nodzzz, Mika Miko and The Beets are particularly fine selections I think. <!--break-->   1. Mika Miko: We Be Xuxa...
Grammatics Choosing a top 100 records of 2009 may seem a little excessive but it has been a fucking awesome year for music.  No question.  We’ve mixed together albums, singles and individual tracks in our list, because we can.  The first batch is our top 100-81 and even though they’re at the lower reaches of our countdown, they’re all still amazing....
WAVVES played at least ten different times down in Austin during SXSW, and Spike.com is already dubbing him an "indie superstar." These are from the Rhapsody Rocks party at The Mohawk, which once again proved to be our favorite bar in Tejas. Pamplemoose provided video from the performance as well. As yall know from the popular website calendar.blogspot.com, the year 2k9 only has 2 months left. The annual music cycle is ‘officially over’ and will be dormant until the first major indie album release in 2k10. This means ‘we’ as an altosphere need 2 do our best to reflect on the year that we just lived, and try 2 analyze which album/artist/mp3 we want to be the...
Who: Washed Out Location: Columbia, SC elbo.ws Ranking: #21 Thoughts: When you characterize your music as "no-fi", as Washed Out does on his MySpace page, there should come with that an inherent "I don’t give fuck" attitude that should at some point dampen the tunes you’re coming out with. The music should be carefree and if there’s some outside noises that...

Wavves MP3s

(Photo: Shoka) Q: How many friggin’ bands can Zach Hill be in? A: As many as he likes, if they’re going to be as good as Chll Pll. His latest new outlet (as of now — that could change by the end of the day) finds the avant-rad drummer teaming up with Zac Nelson of the shimmeringly ambient Hexlove. In this case, one plus one equals a big two: “She Owns” is a...
New song from Nathan Williams, aka Wavves, who’s apparently been joined full-time by Hella’s Zach Hill. Haters will continue to hate, but this is kind of The Jam: mp3: wavves :: cool jumper elsewhere: Atlas Sound covers Fleetwood Mac [via]: mp3: atlas sound :: walk a thin line
Brand new unreleased jams from Wavves + Windsurf grace the new summer/beach-themed installment of the limited the FADER/Southern Comfort 7-inch series.  Only 500 copies exist, but in the meantime, you can download both songs for free from the folks at Fader. mp3: wavves :: friends were gone *************** related: [photo] I guess this was inevitable: introducing the Mexican Wavves,...
I wish Zach Hill could join my band. I don’t really have one, but if I did, and it meant that we would suddenly be churning out (and giving away for free!) six-minute punk songs with guitars that sound like turbines gargling salt and Hill’s drumming ostensibly acting as a punch in the nose to all the Brooklyn Vegan commenters, then that would be pretty rad. Since that will never...
Just two days before he was supposed to take the stage at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, his first performance since Primaveragate made him more of a weird indieweb celebrity/whipping boy than most thought possible, Wavves’ Nathan Williams shattered his wrist while skateboarding. He played the show in a cast and he played the Pitchfork Festival the same way. Both sets were rad. When he...

Wavves Reviews

Nice Nice are currently giving away downloads of their new EP, before its physical release on 26 November. It’s a fantastic single. The A-side ‘One Hit’ sounds like a kind of amped up electro psych Black Sabbath- all crunchy guitars, Ozzy style harmonies and sound explosions. When it really kicks off, it’s the aural equivalent of someone chucking a lit cigar into a...
