FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

Florence and the Machine (often stylised as Florence + the Machine)[1] is the recording name of English pop[2] artist Florence Welch and a collaboration of other artists who provide backing music for her voice. Florence and the Machine's sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul.[3] The band's music has received praise across the music media before they gained mainstream success, especially from the BBC who played a large part in Florence and the Machine's rise to prominence by promoting her as part of BBC Introducing.[4]

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE MP3s

Don’t know what angle to go with here. I could talk about how the fact Florence always sounds like a wailing widow means her vocals are perfect for playing the role of anonymous diva to club remixes’ throbbing machismo (by The xx, Seiji, Boy 8-Bit and now Breakage). Alternatively I could talk about how it’s Friday, and that means this song will have you gagging for the night...
Sometimes hooks are so mangled from their original form that singing along becomes impossible. As if that would prevent us from trying. To little success, we tried arching our lungs over the cut-up voice of Florence Welch here, though even met with failure it’s still lodged in our brains. The xx resung the rest of the tune for their 2-steppy sorta cover/remix, where xylophone and harp seem...
So, this year I thought I’d have a go at doing a Festive Fifty, folllowing in the footsteps of the great John Peel and some other estimable bloggers. However, it’s been a bit of a strange and unsatisfying exercise. I’m sure that when it comes to deciding the top 50 albums and songs of the year, magazines and other multi-staffed media outlets decide on their lists by a...
Seems appropriate that a tune called "Drumming Song" would contain some manic percussion. Here, it’s tweaked by London bass enthusiast, Diplo crony, and fellow redhead Boy 8-Bit, who chisels it into an dewy, clanging 4/4 club track. Florence and the Machine’s’s Lungs is out now via Universal Republic, buy it on iTunes right here.   _RLT.render('...
Several years ago my favorite movie in the world was Who’s Harry Crumb, a long forgotten detective movie starring John Candy, a guy whom, for whatever reason, I couldn’t get enough of growing up. Shit, was that dude funny. Anyway, the movie’s climax was soundtracked by this really gnarly Bonnie Tyler track (not an oxymoron) named "Holding Out For Hero" (the big guy!)...

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE Reviews

Laneway Festival February 1, 2010 Britomart Square, Auckland Last week our Melbourne friends told us that the Laneway Festival is one of the least respected festivals in Australia, we were surprised, but it meant we entered the first Auckland Laneway festival with a hint of scepticism. We’d been told stories of forty minute-queues to see bands, poor facilities and an even poorer...
